A 14-year-old pupil in Warri, Delta State, has reportedly died from a stray bullet that hit him during a clash between two rival cult groups in the city.
Our correspondent gathered that another victim who was alleged to be a member of the warring cult groups simply identified as Morku, died of a gunshot wound. The incident happened around Old Welfare Street, near Lower Erejuwa area of the city in the early hours of Thursday.
Sources told Saturday PUNCH that the fleeing cultists chased by the police and vigilantes reportedly dispossessed residents during the clash.
It was gathered that the 14-year-old boy and only child of his mother was hit by a stray bullet at about 7am when the fight broke out.
The suspected cultists were said to have shot repeatedly into the area while hunting for rival members.
The shooting caused serious tension as some residents of the area scampered to safety.
Sources explained that the late teenager was hit on his back by a stray bullet while assisting his mother who is a food vendor in the area.
A source said, “The suspect (injured cultist) has been arrested. He was arrested alongside four other persons, including two females while trying to get treatment in Uvwie Local Government Area.
