Osun protesters accuse Joint Tax Fund of causing death of one of them

There was panic in Osogbo on Tuesday as some youths protesting against the death of one of them, attacked people in some parts of the town.

The protesters also dumped a corpse believed to be that of the youth in front of the Osun Government House and destroyed a motorcycle.

The protesters also targeted policemen and attacked many bystanders in the Oke Fia, Alekuwodo, and Ilobu areas.

A vehicle belonging to the JTF was also damaged in the Alekuwodo Area by the protesters, while many traffic wardens were beaten up.

Some of the protesters  claimed that a vehicle belonging to the Joint Task Force had chased a Toyota Corolla car with four occupants along East bypass, Osogbo which led to an accident around 5.10pm.

One of the passengers was said to have died on the spot, while others sustained injuries.

Although, there were insinuations that two other occupants of the car died while receiving treatment, but a reliable security source said one passenger died in the accident.null

Also an eyewitness, who preferred not to be named, said while trying to escape from the JTF vehicle, the driver of the car veered off the road and hit an electric pole.

“One the occupants died immediately while the other three were injured and had to be rushed to an undisclosed hospital. The vehicle took off at Osun Mall, Gbongan Road, Osogbo  and headed towards Dele Yes Sir Area to escape arrest,” he said.

When contacted for reaction, Special Adviser on Security to Osun State Governor, Abiodun Ige, said she did not have the details yet.
