Barack Obama Drops Summer Playlist For 2023, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr Make List

Former US President, Barack Obamahas released his annual summer music playlist for 2023, and Nigerian stars, Burna Boy and Ayra Starr, have each held spots on the list.

In a tweet Thursday, July 20, 2023, Obama shared his favorite songs that kept him going during his leisure time this year.

In his summer playlist, which consists of 41 songs, the former president shared songs from popular current artists such as Jorja Smith, Ice Spice, Nicki Minaj, SZA, Drake, J Hus, and Nas.

Grammy award-winning star, Burna Boy also made the list with his single, ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World,’ featuring 21 Savage.

However, Burna Boy is not the only Nigerian to make the list as Ayra Starr also earned a spot with her hit single, ‘Sability.

“Like I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been listening to this summer — a mix of old and new,” Obama wrote in his tweet.

“Look forward to hearing what I’ve missed,” he added

Meanwhile, Burna Boy has previously featured on Obama’s annual summer playlist with the single, ‘Last Last,’ making the cut in 2022. Ayra Starr’s, ‘Rush,’ also made Obama’s 2022 end-of-the-year playlist.

The former president also shared the list of the books he has been reading this year, as well as a link to a list of banned books compiled by the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).
